Chastain-Skillman Assisting the University of Florida TREEO Center

Chastain-Skillman, Inc. (CSI) is currently partnering with University of Florida's TREEO (Training, Research, and Education for Environmental Occupations) Center on two of their new refresher training courses. CSI will assist with the preparation and presentation of their Mold Assessor and Mold Remediator courses.

The University of Florida TREEO Center helps environmental professionals stay up-to-date with the latest developments in their field by providing online programs, customized training, open-enrollment courses, and consulting and research services.

Reclaimed Water...Public or Private?

Is reclaimed water a basic public resource or a privately manufactured product? That is the question before the Florida Legislature this session, as it decides how to classify the state's large supply of wastewater that is treated and used again, often for lawn irrigation or recharging aquifers.

Current Florida law subjects all state waters to permitting based upon "beneficial use" in the public interest. But the bill up for debate would exclude reclaimed water from "waters of the state," granting sole ownership of the resources to the utilities that produce it.

Under the bill, state water management districts could not dictate how reclaimed water is used, even during an emergency shortage. If the bill becomes law, it will dramatically change the way that reclaimed water is distributed in our state.

CSI Presenting to USF Polytechnic and FHREDI

Chastain-Skillman, Inc. (CSI) is partnering with KCI Technologies to provide a presentation to USF Ploytechnic and Florida's Heartland Regional Economic Development Initiative (FHREDI) group.

Steve McConn and Suzanne Hunnicutt of CSI will be presenting on Tuesday, January 17th. The presentation will focus on site development opportunities for the G. Pierce Woods Hospital site in Arcadia, Florida.

CSI Helps USF Polytechnic GO GREEN!

USF Polytechnic is working to become a "green" campus and has enlisted Chastain-Skillman to help. Our initial focus is to help them conserve water.

The first step in this process is to conduct a study to research water reuse methods for their campuses. The purpose of our study is to see if we can reuse highly treated wastewater from the City of Auburndale as a means of reducing groundwater withdrawal and conserving water. The findings from this study can be then incorporated into USF Polytechnic's campus plan. It's a great way to help them GO GREEN!

CSI Provides Consulting Services for Home Depot

Chastain-Skillman is partnering with Home Depot to offer environmental/occupational health & safety services. Working with Home Depot's Rapid Deplyment Center (RDC) facility in South Georgia, CSI is providing experienced personnel as well as operating systems, noise assessment and exposure evaluations for Home Depot.

CSI's Environmental & Occupational Health and Safety team is also assisting Home Depot Supply with OSHA asbestos and lead-based paint management programs.

Chastain-Skillman Helps Provide Telephone Communication for Tornado Victims in Alabama

When recent tornado activity caused phone lines to go down in Northern Alabama, Chastain-Skillman, Inc. looked for a way to take action.

Century Link, a regional cable and telecommunications provider, was having difficulty securing permission for the emergency installation of fiber optic cable, which was essential to quickly reestablishing communication to North Alabama. Chastain-Skillman assisted Century Link in responding to state and local permitting needs necessary to proceed with this critical work.

Chastain-Skillman Wins Asbestos Inspection Contract for State Government Buildings

Chastain-Skillman, one of Florida’s leading asbestos program management firms,
was recently selected to provide asbestos inspection services in four key historic government buildings in Tallahassee.

“It is a privilege to be given the opportunity to work on buildings with such historical significance,” said Paul Osley, Principal of EOHS Services at Chastain-Skillman, Inc. “We are looking forward to working with Florida’s Department of Management Services on this project.”

Chastain-Skillman will inspect for the presence of asbestos in the Historic Capitol Building, the New Capitol Building, the Collins Building and the Coleman Building. They will be providing asbestos reinspection services for over 600,000 square feet of combined building space. Asbestos program management services will begin in July.
